EarthDay 2015 – Let’s Show We Care

Let’s Reduce our Footprint

Billions of tiny actions that can make a major change…

Earth Day is THE day in the year, when one should take time to reflect on one’s capacity at reversing adverse effects of one’s liability on our planet’s health. It may seem presumptuous to many, to imagine that an individual act will count in a broader picture. But more and more each day, we are getting to better understand how simple human habits like eating, travelling or buying, to say the least, add up to a global bill that weakens the Earth in its capacity at harbouring more than 6 billion human beings.   Continue reading

Continue reading

War On Coal – Indians are NOT Stupid… Mauritian Politicians are…

Indians are not Stupid…

Sun Power in India

Just three years ago, grid-connected solar power in the country was less than 12 MW. By the end of 2011, India had acquired 190 MW in solar power generation capacity. By March 2013, that figure will grow five-fold to 1,000 MW under the Solar Mission targets alone… (source Business Today)

And Yes… Indeed…Indians are definitely NOT Stupid… And to our own shame we must admit : “Our Politicians and their Politically-nominated consultants are!”

Ecological Footprint – How to reduce our’s for a Better Sustainable Environment

Ecological Footprint – How to reduce our’s for a Better Sustainable Environment

First, let’s define the term Ecological Footprint

The ecological footprint is a measure of human demand on the Earth’s ecosystems. It is a standardized measure of demand for natural capital that may be contrasted with the planet’s ecological capacity to regenerate. It represents the amount of biologically productive land and sea area necessary to supply the resources a human population consumes, and to assimilate associated waste.

Wikipedia

An ecological footprint is the measure of how much of earth’s biological capacity is required by an individual, group, or activity.

Viability v/s Sustainability – What costs for an average Mauritian?

Viability v/s Sustainability – What costs for an average Mauritian?

Sustainability! What a daunting term!

While sustainability seems to be a very trendy and powerful term to utilize nowadays, we, in Mauritius, and especially at administrating levels, look like we still haven’t found the full grasp of the related fundamentals. Sustainability comes along with the obliteration of waste and wastage. Waste of time, energy and resources, mainly.  Continue reading

So You Would Like to Create a Community… Here are 21 tips to This

Community – The Word

Overview: The word “community” is derived from the Old French communité which is derived from the Latin communitas (cum, “with/together” + munus, “gift”), a broad term for fellowship or organized society. A Community is a group of interacting people, living in some proximity (i.e., in space, time, or relationship). Community usually refers to a social unit larger than a household that shares common values and has social cohesion…

Strangely enough, building a community has become today’s big online challenge.  But we tend to forget that We, human beings, are nothing but social animals that flock together and use our unique intelligence to rule over the foodchain and stay ontop of Earth’s global eco-system. This has been thus since the beginning of times and is inscribed in our genes, in our DNA.

The use of technology has changed our social behaviour and rules guiding the ways to interact in the real world. We find ourselves serving technology instead of having technology helping us to enhance our social interaction in the real world. We are only helping technology to get more awesome everyday, while we are turning out to be unrelated individuals on the streets. Strangely, we are getting closer virtually but moving further apart in real life.
